February 22, 2015 - Family Heritage Day and Annual General Meeting

Close to fifty people attended Cantley 1889's fourth annual general meeting at St. Elizabeth's Parish Hall. The annual report was distributed. After president Wes Darou's welcome, an election was held. The following Board members were re-elected for another two-year term: Michael Rosen, Caroline Marchand, Robert Grenier and Margaret Phillips. New director Patricia Lawlor was elected to replace retired Guy Nadeau.

Gaston Desjardins presented his slides of logging on the Gatineau River taken two weeks before the log drive ended in 1991. Gaston shot his images from a tugboat following the logs from Cascades to the chute bypassing the Chelsea and Farmer Rapids Dams and then on to Pointe Gatineau and the CIP mill on the Ottawa River. The slides captured the story of the logs and the men who drove them. The audience's enthusiastic response showed they agreed that the slide show was a fascinating and unique record of "The Gatineau River Log Drive: the end of an era".

Attendees enjoyed social time after the presentation, home-made baking, the displays and browsing through publications for sale. Special thanks to volunteer Linda Bardell who scanned old family photos for attendees.
