Members of Cantley's original families, and many others, young and old, had a wonderful afternoon at St Elisabeth's Parish Hall. Many brought old family photos and treasures from their family archives to show on display tables. There were also displays of century-old tools and gadgets, maps, sketches. All enjoyed a huge array of home-made treats. Many stories were told among the close to 100 attendees who met for the first time, or for the first time in many years!
This was also the occasion of Cantley 1889's 2nd Annual Meeting. The Board of Directors for 2013-2014 was elected: Margaret Phillips (Chair), Michael Rosen (Vice-Chair), Mary Holmes (Secretary-Treasurer), Wes Darou, Robert Grenier, Caroline Marchand, Sue McClelland, Robert McClelland, Reta Milks as well as two new members - Michel Martel and Guy Nadeau.
Carol Martin, author of "In Memory of Chelsea's Historic Cemeteries" then took the audience on a photographic tour of cemeteries around the world, as she talked of how clues of life of the past can be found there - she showed many Cantley examples.
Cantley 1889 used this occasion to launch the reprinting of the only book on Cantley history - "L'Histoire de Cantley - The History of Cantley" by Bob Phillips. Please contact Cantley 1889 (info.cantley1889@gmail.com) if you wish to purchase a copy ($10 - members $8).
Cantley 1889 is very proud of its first "Family Heritage Day", and of how it instilled a community spirit by honouring Cantley's past.
